Why I Donate 10%

As the daughter of an immigrant small business owner, I grew up seeing my mothers hard work and understood that with the right community resources and support, social mobility is possible. When she launched her small business, she had just recently become a single mother and was juggling a second job, all while raising three young girls.

Through the support of her neighbors, friends, chosen family, and local organizations that believed in her vision and the future of her daughters, my sisters and I are able to be here today as Central American artists and community organizers. That is why I’m committed to donating 10% of select print sales proceeds to local organizations. As the product of a Salvadoran mother and Nicaraguan father, empowering the Central American community and the village that it took to raise my sisters and I is at the core of my work.

That is why this year I will be donating to two Central American organizations in San Francisco, CA: CARECEN SF, an organization that empowers and responds to the needs, rights and aspirations of Latino, immigrant, and under-resourced families in the Bay Area and Chavalos de Aquí y Alla, a Nicaraguan organization that uses their cultural arts programming to raise money for humanitarian aide efforts in Nicaragua.

In solidarity,
